The Bloody Chamber

- by Angela Carter

Angela Carter is inspired by fairytales, Jung’s theory of the collective unconscious, horror movies and the fantasies of writers such as Poe and Mary Shelly but above all she explored sexuality and the strange manifestations and power plays inherent in the sexual relationship. The Bloody Chamber is a collection of Gothic re-workings of popular fairy tales, often revealing the blood and eroticism barely submerged there. This Salon would be a good preparation for her wonderful and explosive work, The Passion of New Eve.
